Memorial Day 2012

We headed up to the Buzzard's lakehouse to celebrate Memorial day. This year it held an extra special place in my heart after losing a high school friend that I have known for 20 + years who was serving in Afghanistan. While I loved every second of fun at the lake, I tried to remember all the families who have loved ones currently overseas protecting our freedoms and all the families who have loved ones who will never again return home.

Memorial Day weekend was beautiful and the kids had a blast being together! We enjoyed a peaceful day laying out on the dock, watching the kids swim, jet ski and go tubing behind the boat. It was the perfect day and wonderful to spend time with each other. The highlight of the trip for both kids was jet skiing. Caleb took his first official ride and LOVED it!

Caps, Gowns and Preschool Dreams

My sweet girl is officially a Kindergartner!  I can't believe how quickly time flies!  A few weeks ago her school held an outdoor graduation a local park/pavillion.  Complete with cap, gown, diploma and performances.

The Preschool graduating class of 2012 entered the stage with nothing less than the traditional Pomp and Circumstance.  Each child's name was called and after receiving their diploma they went center stage to announce on the microphone their future goals.  Mackenzie was the first to go.  I was a little nervous since she can be really shy in front of large crowd.  However, she did amazing!  She walked confidently to the microphone and announced in a loud voice "when I grow up, I want to  be a pediatrician."  (Someone please remind me in the future not to shoot pictures and videos at the same time.  Somehow I always manage to take a picture and disrupt the video at the worst time possible:).

(in case you missed it, which I'm sure you did b/c I took a photo in the middle of her speech "when I grow up I want to be a pediatrician").

Can you tell that these graduates are DONE with photos and ready to hit the after party? :)-

After the graduation ceremony, there was a super sweet slideshow set to music.  The teachers had asked families in advance to provide them with pictures from their child's life since birth.  Seeing my sweet baby girl's life literally flash before me on the big screen definitely brought a tear to my eye.  Time truly does fly!

Following graduation, we took lots of pictures, enjoyed some cake and snacks and then headed back to our house for dinner with the family!  It was a night we will all remember through the years and we couldn't be more proud of our sweet girl!

Mother's Day Weekend 2012

Of all of my accomplishments in life, Motherhood is at the TOP of the list.  As in 1st place.  There is no better gift I have ever been given.  It is one of the few things in life you don't get to pick.  I was blessed to be able to pick my own spouse (and yes I was the one who did the picking up almost 8 years ago:), pick the job I wanted, friendships I've made...but Motherhood is a gift you are given.  You don't get to pick when these little miracles arrive, the gender, personalities, etc.  But if I could....I would pick these 2...

I love you two dearly and am so proud to go by the title "Mommy"!

To start off Mother's day weekend,  I was given the best gift ever...time to MYSELF!  Don't get me wrong, I truly love and adore my 2 blessings, but having a little time to myself is a gift you just can't put a price tag on.  My AMAZING husband planned the whole thing.  I'll be honest, I felt a bit guilty spending a whole day, on Saturday, all to myself  not changing diapers or cutting up food into little bite size pieces, but after a surprise massage and pedicure that guilt slowly started to fade.  It also helped knowing that my husband was able to spend time with his Mom and that my kids were able to spend the day with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Buzz and their 3 cousins.  It was a great day for everyone!  Thank you, Jeremy for your kind and thoughtful gift!  I love you dearly and am so blessed to be able to raise our two amazing children with you.

After church on Sunday, we enjoyed our Annual Mother's day lunch at the Club.  Their breakfast buffett is amazing and a tradition we all look forward to each year.

My favorite part this year was taking my sweet son up for a second plate and assuming he wanted a refill on fruit or waffles.  Wrong!  My lil' man grabbed his own plate off  the buffett table (and quite possibly marched himself past the line of hungry and patiently waiting people) heading straight to the prime rib carving station.  Yep, that's right.  I tried to discourage him until the Chef on the opposite side of the table asked him if he would like to try a piece of meat.  "Yeth" my little carnivore replied with a big grin.  He kindly sliced two pieces of medium rare (no joke) meat onto his plate.  Caleb replied "tank you" and then held up the plate to his little nose inhaling it multiple times.  He then turned and briskly began walking to the table excited to partake in his first piece of prime rib.  So excited in fact, that he just couldn't wait.  Instead, he stopped dead in his tracks and began licking the thinly cut slices of meat.  He did this (among laughter from all the surrounding tables) all the way to his seat.  We all sat wide eyed as my sweet boy ate almost the entire plate of medium rare prime rib.  Oh little boy, how lucky I am to be your mother and watch you learn and try new things in this world.

And to my sweet girl, I am so proud of the person you have become. You have such a fun and spunky spirit, but are equally sweet and kind.  I love watching you interact with your friends, brother and Daddy.  People adore you and it's no wonder.  I love you bunches!

Of course, I can not end a post about Mother's Day without acknowledging the amazing "Mothers" in my life.  First, my own mother.  You are the most self-less, patient, loving, giving, and kind woman I have ever known.  Anyone who meets you says the same thing.  You truly are one-of-a-kind.  You have played such an integral part in shaping the person I am today and who I want to become.  Thank you for being an amazing mother and my very best friend.  I am so grateful for you and thank you for the love and support you have given me these past 36 years.  My children adore you and cherish their Wonderful Wednesday's with you!

To my Mother-in-law, Kathy who is the most thoughtful, kind hearted, and loving mother-in-law a girl could ask for.  You have always treated me like one of your own and have always made me feel like a part of your family.  You have such a close and fun-loving relationship with your boys, and I adore the fact that my husband goes to you for advice and calls you multiple times throughout the week, just to see how you are.  I can only hope that my own little boy will grow up to do the same.  Thank you for raising such a wonderful man who loves his family more than anything in this World.  I love you bunches and thank you for the strong role you play in all our lives!

To my amazing older sister, who was one of my first role models growing up to have kids.  Melissa, you make motherhood look easy...and you have 5 children!  I do not know how you do it.  I guess, it was all those years in our childhood of me pestering you to play with me and let me tag along that made you have to be so motherly.  :) You are kind and loving to your children, ridiculously efficient, amazingly patient, and were meant to have the role of mother.  I look up to you and hope that my two little ones grow up to be as kind and well-behaved as your five (well one can dream:).

To my amazing Sister-in-law, Kate.  You remind me so much of my own Mom, quite possibly one of the many reasons I adore you! You have the biggest heart and truly enjoy life.  You always see the good in things and never seem overwhelmed.   You are always so kind in your interactions with your children and truly enjoy each moment spent with them.  Everyone has fun when they are in your presence! You are one of the greatest Mom's I know.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Wonderful Mother's I know!

Growing Up

If I could freeze the hands of time, I would.  I love the ages of my children and truly enjoy each day with them.  Time is rushing by way too fast and I know I will look back and remember these days as some of my favorite memories from their childhood.

My sweet girl is so grown up!  We recently went to Kindergarten Screening and she is super excited for Kindergarten.  She is already learning to read.  I bring home some of the leveled books from my school and she is whizzing through them.  She has about 50 sight words that we read throughout the week and we have learned that we cannot spell things in front of her b/c she is able to figure out what we are spelling.  We are going to have to come up with some new secret language around here!  She LOVES writing us little notes or stories and her phonetic spelling is amazing.  She loves that we can now read her writing.  It has opened up a whole new world for her...and us!

ready for Kindergarten Screening!

All smiles after her assessment!

One of her recent pieces of writing:  "My cat is lost.  Is my cat ok?  I don't know."
Not too shabby for a Preschooler. (BTW...we do NOT have a cat nor will we be getting one.  Just a random piece of writing she self-generated. Don't get any wild ideas about pets:).

...and the other night before bedtime I asked her to think about what she wanted for breakfast the following morning.  When I came back from putting Caleb down, I found this note.  Apparently, I am now taking breakfast orders. :)-

Mackenzie)

We love you sweet girl and can't believe you will be heading off to school next Fall.  We are so excited for you and know you are ready and will do great!  Trying to hold onto the last few moments with my little girl before then!

My sweet little guy is growing up far too fast too.  He amazes us everyday with his ability to speak sentences, and do "big boy" things completely on his own.  He is learning to use the potty at school, and is constantly ripping off his diaper to use our potty at home.  I was not ready for himto grow up so quickly.  At this rate, he may be out of diapers by this Summer.  Here are a few videos I took a while ago and a hysterical picture that truly represents him at this age.

Counting to 20

...and if this doesn't scream genius resourceful, I don't know what does.  Caleb receieved a tattoo from a classmate at school and asked me while driving to "put this on Mommy."  I obviously couldn't while driving, so I told him I would help him when I got home.  A minute later he screams "I did it Mommy, I did it!  Look at this!"  Bless his sweet heart, he somehow managed to smack it on his sweet little forehead and make it stick!

We love you buddy and are so proud of you...but could you please slow down and stay our little baby a bit longer?

                                                              Love you sweet baby boy!
